This most famous of Trumpet Voluntaries was long thought to have been composed by Henry Purcell.
The most recent scholarship of the last several decades has come to the conclusion that it was composed by Jeremiah Clarke, one of Purcell's contemporaries.
This piece, either with or without the trumpet, is a stirring processional and has become the traditional Bridal March.
We still perform of course Wagner's and Mendelssohn's Bridal Marches.
Uses:
Processional,
Recessional
